About Us - Minehead Football Club
Welcome to Minehead Football Club, home for the youth and whatever league football that began back in 1889. Enjoying the beautiful exmoor countryside, as well as it's enviable coastal position, Minehead is well placed to provide the essential sporting activities of Football Minehead Football Club was originally founded in 1889 and spent their early years in local competitions Turning semi-professional in 1949/50 Minehead joined the Western League, in which they played for 23 seasons. In spite of being one of the most consistent teams in the league, Minehead never actually won the Western League Championship, although they finished as runners-up twice (in 66/67 and 71/72). The football club operates a policy of using local, unpaid players, with the main objective being to play at the highest level of football sustainable both on and off the pitch. Having returned to the Western League two decades ago, the club have experienced contrasting fortunes, but through the dedication and commitment of a handful of committee members, has pulled through a turbulent recent history and now look to instigate sound plans for the future. At the end of each season, Minehead Youth hosts the Easter & Spring football festivals, where teams come from all areas of the UK to compete over a 3 day period, this gives the children of Minehead the chance to play against some of the best Junior league teams in the UK. The event is well organised and enjoyed by everybody involved. The newly formed Under 7 training sessions are primarily for anybody from 5-7 years old who would like to come and have a game of football and are run on every second Sunday. Although there are no actual league games for this age group as yet friendly games are to be arranged in the near future. Anybody interested in joining should contact Dale dale@mineheadtownfc.co.uk
